Frank Sinatra's Favourite Restaurant
While visiting Chicago, I had the privlege of visiting the original location of the "Rosebud Restaurant", known to most as Frank Sinatra's favourite restaurant, and I must say, Frank has great taste in food!
The restaurant is an Italian fine dining restaurant by day, and a swanky live entertainment lounge at night. It is located downtown Chicago in the Theatre District and has two busy levels of hungry people to feed.
As it was lunchtime, I ordered (what I thought would be) a simple Eggplant salad, and let me say, their interpretation of a "salad" is quite unique.
As you can see from the photo I took, the salad arrived as a 3-tiered masterpiece. 3 layers of deliciously seasoned and breaded eggplant that was nice and thin, fresh mozzerella slices, thickly sliced beefsteak tomato and reggiano beneath each glorious layer. The salad consisted of wild rocket tossed in a creamy vinaigrette and finished with even more reggiano. The was also delicately placed beneath each layer with love. And for the finale of flavour, a rich balsamic reduction drizzled everywhere. The combination of crunchy eggplant, smooth mozzerella, the bite from the wild rocket, and the tangy reduction worked together perfectly. As did the hot eggplant with the cool salad and tomatoes. The salad was so big I couldn't come close to finishing it, and the entire thing only cost me $10.00! Mind blowing for a foodie city such as Chicago. My only complaint was that I only got to eat at Rosebud once!
If this is what Rosebud considers to be a salad...I can't wait until the next time I visit Chicago and try their mains!
